It’s been a long time coming, but the time for a new blog post has arrived. Getting back into work routine made me learn the hard way that the summer indeed was over. I took so many photos and made so many loving memories during my stay in California and it’s against my nature not to share them all.
One of such was visiting Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad just outside of Oakhurst in the foothills of Sierra Nevada. It’s a western style, pioneer little settlement with a museum and steam train ride going throughout the forest/premises of an old lumber company.
Panning for gold was so much fun and something I thought I’d never do. Regardless of it being a $10 touristy thing, I enjoyed it nonetheless. We met a sweet old man and shared a good chat with him. I learned one of the first (documented) decent sized golden nuggets ever found was used as a door stopper before they discovered what it actually was. A cool anecdote, for sure.
Yosemite is quite possibly the most popular national park in the US. It’s no wonder because, when you see it—the famous Tunnel View—you are mesmerized by the landscape laid before you. I’ve never seen anything like it before—standing in front of these giant rocks carved by glaciers ages ago.
Travis and I only had a few hours to drive around so I can’t say I experienced the park completely, but I would love to come back and do it properly; camping and all. Next time we’ll try not to jam pack three national parks in two and a half days. (Fun days, mind you.)
