The day before my flight back to Croatia, Travis and I went to town for a breakfast at the local Henry’s Cafe. As you can tell, I indulged in French toast. I had a whole afternoon of packing ahead of me and we made sure to avoid the task right to the last minute (which is now known as the Great packing incident of 2024.). Instead, we decided to drive up the Tehachapi Mountain Park as it snowed the night before.
Going back home is never emotionally easy and seeing this beauty ahead of me that morning reminded me of what I’m leaving behind, yet again. I never imaged I’d have two homes, each on opposite sides of the world, but here I am—we make it work, somehow.
My favorite thing about that day is going on the last photography hoorah to document how different the landscape was under snow, before I left. Tehachapi is quite high up and blizzards aren’t that uncommon. Naturally, the higher you go, more snow you get (for a Southern California). There was a distinct line separating the snow covered hills from the rest of the golden landscape bellow. The mood changes so rapidly with every minute, depending on whether you’re going up or downhill. It was such a contrast between the two that I immediately knew the photos would be one of my favorites from the entire trip (and I was there for a month).
Despite being constantly reminded of my flight the next day, I can honestly say I was blessed to have experienced such a calm beauty midst all the rush and anxiety of going back home. God bless!
