For those who still haven’t gotten fed up with my blog posts about the recent trip to California, you’re in for a treat. (Although, let’s be honest, there are many more posts to come.) Initially, I was gonna split today’s post in two or three, but as started to edit, I just kept going, adding photos.
As you can tell by the title, today I’m gonna share glimpses of Tehachapi, a small, high desert town I fell in love with. Before I got a chance to experience it for myself, my ideas of picturesque small towns of America came solely from movies and TV shows I had watched over the years. Now that I enjoyed living in one of such towns and observed its locals, I can verify the movies were right.
One of my favorite things about Tehachapi is their overwhelming patriotism and love for America. There are Stars and Stripes in every yard and I think it’s the best. Makes me feel we should appreciate our own country more, not just on major state holidays.
The town is surrounded by gorgeous golden hills and mountain parks. Before the visit, my ideas of California indeed were of golden hills, not Hollywood. It’s something Travis and I speak often about. As if I was always meant to get there someday.
(Un)fortunately, I didn’t see any bears in Tehachapi Mountain Park, but we’ve heard a cougar roar on the way down which made me switch the speed of my descent into high gear. In a true local spirit, Travis was laid back and found no danger in it. I mean, it’s a cougar?!
I know I sound like a broken record, but it seems like every corner of Tehachapi is my favorite. Like taking a walk on a warm summer night, underneath the strings lights going from one side of the street to the other. Or going to the Hitching Post, a local movie theater to watch whatever movie is playing that week because the ticket and snacks are affordable. If you enjoy the little things like Travis and I do, there’s plenty to do in a small town like this.
