Although it was sunset time and most of the canyon was already in a shade, it was still quite warm (hot, actually) so vast majority of my photos were taken out of Travis’ Jeep (which has lovely artic temperature AC). Being a photographer, I naturally want to make countless stops to take that shot, but I’m hesitant to say anything when there is someone else driving as I don’t want to be an annoyance. However, Travis was reading me so well and would stop all the time for which I’m very grateful.
I loved Red Rock because it has such a rich desert plant life. Being a local (the park is only some 30-45 min away from his home), Travis says he doesn’t understand why tourists rush to Joshua Tree park when you have places like this that offer everything you’d want to see in a California desert. Plus it’s basically empty as we encountered maybe 5 people altogether. Since I haven’t been to the other park, I partially agree with him as there are Joshua trees everywhere you look. At least in Mojave.
We ended our evening at the park with off-roading through Dove Springs towards Jawbone and it was so much fun as the dusk fell upon us. Our initial idea was to off-road our way back, but then Travis thought it would be better to head back as we were lacking extra gas and some other things to do this properly. He loves adventures (the idea was completely up his alley), but safety comes first. One of the reasons why he’s the best travel companion. God bless.
